Rich Cianci’s first experiences as a photographer started when he was sixteen, with only a point and shoot camera, taking dangerous shots of friends on dirtbikes. After developing the shots, Rich discovered not only that he had some great photos of dirtbikes jumping over his head, but that he had found his creative niche.
After about 10 years and many rock concerts, Rich bought himself his first “nice” camera, a nikon 35mm film camera and, he learned on that it was expensive to shoot on film. After reading the entire KODAK Complete Book of Photography, and not really knowing what half of the terms meant, he filed it away in the back of his head, and went to digital with a Nikon 990. After discovering the variations and effects, Rich’s creativity blossomed. He delved into black and white, still life, nature, macro, portrait, and animals. When a friend asked him to shoot his band Neybas in 1992, it was true love... LIVE music. It was initially a challenge for Rich to shoot someone performing something audible in a medium that is essentially "deaf", but he continued to shoot the band, until he started his computer business in 1997, which eventually became the computer recycling company he runs today. It wasn’t until spring 2007 when a new band asked Rich to shoot again, and he blossomed as a music photographer and rededicated him to the genre.
Rich has had the opportunity to work with countless local bands, such as TENET, Columbia Fields and Kris Keyes as well as many national bands like Kenny Mehler, Dave Navarro and his personal favorite, Blind Melon. Rich has also done extensive modeling work with male and female models, and on occasion he enjoys grabbing the camera and hunting for bugs and other nature shots, when he’s not out till 4am doing a band shoot. Currently, Rich is working on a non profit project that combines the work of several photographers and lets them "donate" shots to benefit the charity of their choice. The launch of the website should be spring/summer of 2008. In the meantime, Rich continues to shoot local bands and has built a large support network already, from the tons of bands he has shot for free, to the fan bases and the various management people, promoters, and friends and families that have been lucky enough to see his work.
